Stacey Calvert, Licensed GYROTONIC® Trainer - Stacey Calvert was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina and began her ballet training at the Calvert-Brodie School of Dance, studying with her Mother and Godmother. In 1980, Ms. Calvert entered the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet—and remained there for three years. She joined New York City Ballet’s corp de ballet in 1983. In 1992, Ms. Calvert joined William Forsythe’s Frankfurt Ballet. She returned to New York City Ballet in the winter of 1993. Ms. Calvert was promoted to the rank of Soloist in 1994.
Stacey started Gyrotonic methodology with Juliu Horvath in 1985 while living in New York City and has been practicing for over 25 years. In 2001 she begain training individuals with Miriam Barbosa at GYROTONIC® VISTA.
Sandy Cook, Licensed GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Trainer - Sandra Cook has been studying Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methodology for nearly a decade. Her client base includes individuals with a wide variety of physical goals, including those recovering from injury and elite athletes. Her ability to observe movement and her keen understanding of body placement guide her in helping her clients achieve their full potential for mobility, strength and alignment. Sandra is experienced in working with clients recovering from shoulder, hip, knee and lower back injuries. Her objective as an instructor is to teach her clients how to move efficiently in their everyday lives by applying the work from each session to their daily activities.
Sandra has studied under method founder Juliu Horvath, Paul Horvath, and Master Trainer, Miriam Barbosa. She is certified in Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methodology, as well as in the use of specialized Gyrotonic equipment. Sandra is also a certified Gyrotonic Pretrainer.
Steven Ferguson, Certified GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Trainer - Steven is an eclectic artist from Charlotte, NC. As a singer-songwriter, musician, and dancer Steven has achieved much success by fusing his craftsmanship to create his work. He began his dance training while earning a Bachelor of Music at the University of South Carolina. He studied various styles of dance under Miriam Barbosa, Stacey Calvert, Terrence Henderson and Cindy Flach. Steven has performed as a guest artist with the USC Dance Company, Vibrations Dance Company, UNBOUND Dance Company and Columbia Classical Ballet. The Columbia Music Festival Association featured Steven in a pas de trois for the George Balanchine work, Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, in their production featuring New York City Ballet principal dancers. Steven began dancing with South Carolina Contemporary Dance Company under the direction of Artistic Director Miriam Barbosa in 2007. His presence in the studio inspired Ms. Barbosa and guest artist Brenda Nieto to create his solo role as Virgil in The Divine Comedy.
Steven is a certified Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis instructor at GYROTONIC®VISTA and teaches workshops throughout Southeast. Steven has studied body mechanics and conditioning for over 10 years. His influences include Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Alexander technique, and Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis methodology. He has studied underneath many prominent figures of Gyrotonic practice, including: Miriam Barbosa, Rita Renha (GYROTONIC® Brazil Institute), and Juliu Horvath, who discovered the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis principles. Steven is enthusiastic about improving the quality of health and fitness in a complete tailored approach for his client. His nurturing approach yields enlightenment and total body awareness.
