At GYROTONIC® Vista we believe in maintaining a balance in all areas of our lives in order to be a whole person - body, mind, spirit, and emotions. BODY - The body is designed to heal itself given it has the proper care, nutrition, herbal supplements, spiritual and emotional well-being. Food is fuel.  What kind of fuel are you putting into your body?  How is your body using the fuel it receives?  Many diseased and stressed states respond to nutritional adjustment.

While it certainly does have its place, the idea that Modern Medicine is the end-all-be-all to create and maintain a healthy body is proving to be false. The United States ranks 16th or more in the world on effectively treating health related issues. If Modern Medicine was as effective as the commercials on TV purports it to be, one would think the United States would rank number one in treating all health issues. Ask anyone from China, India, Japan, Europe and they politely laugh about our beliefs on maintaining health. Proper exercise and a holistic approach to the body assist in bringing your body back to optimum functioning.

MIND - Our minds literally create health or illness since some layer of our consciousness is operating the body and creating whatever state we are in. You need to access all your values and beliefs. Take inventory. What do I believe? The most important question is: What do I want to believe? If you aren't deciding what you want to believe someone else is. We allow all kind of things to shape our mind and dictate what we believe: television, other individuals, the internet, media, the world around us, etc... After taking inventory develop a plan to systematically change your beliefs. Decide to create your future.

A mind-set shift is also listening to the language you use, the tape you run in your head. Your life is created by your thoughts; everything you think and say drives you toward that reality. For example, if you say, I can't do this.... That is what you will create. If you say, I am working on learning to do that.... Or I can. That is what you will create.

Peace of mind is essential to create a healthy body and also to create a healthy world.   Peace of mind can be attained through proper exercise, emotional healing and connecting to ones inner-self. Therefore, going within is the only way to create peace of mind.

Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis practice creates body symetry resulting in clarity of mind. When the body experiences harmony, the mind is at peace. SPIRIT - The purpose of all religions and spiritual searching is the recognition that humans have a part of themselves that is not physical and there is a need to explore and experience this aspect of oneself. Part of the intent is to discover one’s purpose and to live in the best way possible; part of that goal also includes the attainment of ‘Truth and Spiritual Wellness.’ Spirituality is based on the belief that everything in the universe is energy and consciousness.  Where is your consciousness?  It is within you.  Also, going within, creates a connection with an ‘Essence’ greater than yourself, a higher consciousness.  In the world of spirituality you are free to call this ‘Essence’ whatever feels right to you.

The human body projects an energy field that provides an energy matrix structure upon which cells grow. This energy field exists before the physical body and contains our spiritual self. It is at this level of our being that healing processes and creativity take place. A balanced functioning of our energetic field is necessary to maintain our health and well-being.

EMOTIONS - Our emotional states are an important factor in our overall health. When our emotions are in flux, physical imbalances and illnesses are likely to surface. Emotions are responses to inner and outer experiences, particularly our relationships. We may feel hurt, anxious, fearful, angry or sad in response to negative events in our lives, or we may feel joy, happiness, peace, compassion and elation.

When we experience emotional distress and fail to release that emotional energy, it gets trapped energetically and will imprint into our physical body. This is why we may literally develop a pain in the neck when we are suffering from a relationship with someone whom we call "a pain in our neck", or may develop stomach problems when we are always swallowing down our feelings.

Negative emotions and limiting beliefs are the two most common factors that prevent us from changing, healing and succeeding. Anxiety, anger and sadness or non-supportive self-talk such as “I can’t do this” or “I don’t deserve this” hold us back from utilizing our full potential and achieving our goals. Furthermore, a large number of medical studies demonstrated that negative emotions play a significant role in the development of heart diseases, chronic pain, autoimmune diseases and cancer. On the other hand positive thinking and optimistic beliefs stimulate and enhance the healing process. The discovery of neurotransmitters established the scientific proof for the mind-body connection. Neurotransmitters, small proteins, which are released in response to thoughts and feelings, not only bathe every cell in our body but they also control the functions of our cells.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Spring Spinach Salad with Chicken - Serves 4 (Print)

Ingredients
3/4 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 tblsp extra virgin olive oil
1 tsp Mediterranean seafood seasoning
4 slices cooked bacon, chopped
2 cups sliced button mushrooms
4 cups baby spinach
1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1 cup canned corn, drained
1 small red onion, sliced
Dressing of your choice

Method
Preheat broiler. Place oven rack about 7 inches from heat source. Brush chicken breasts with oil and sprinkle with seasoning. Broil on a baking sheet for about 15 minutes, turning once, until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove from oven and set aside. In a large salad bowl, toss together bacon, mushrooms, spinach, blue cheese, tomatoes, corn and onions. Arrange salad on plates, then cut warm chicken into bite-size strips and place on top. Serve with your favorite dressing.
